1videoConference - Web Conferencing

1videoConderencePlay Demo

Still in alpha, 1videoConference is an open source web conferencing company that is currently the number 8 ranked download on SourceForge. 1videoConference is just one of quite a few companies in the collaboration technology market that are changing the way people communicate online.

1videoConference users can share live audio and video along with screencasts to create a powerful conference enviroment. The “alpha version” download can be installed on your server and folded into your current website. For example, MedinIndia.com, a medical tourism website, uses 1videoConfernce for enabling video/ audio/ data conferencing between Patients and Hospitals across the world.

1videoConference is currently looking for angel investors to help launch the company as a major player in the collaboration technology market.

Features (as shown on 1videoConference.com):

  • Audio and Video Sharing: Low latency, multi-party video and audio sharing brings back the intimacy of a meeting.
  • Presentation and Document Sharing: Share your ideas on a presentation or help your partner edit a document in real time collaboration.
  • Application sharing: Say you need to teach someone how to use a new piece of software, instead of trying to walk them through it over the phone or instant message, simply share your application with them and show them how its done.
  • Desktop Sharing: Share your entire desktop and control of the mouse/keyboard.
White Board and Annotations: Anyone in the meeting room can leave annotations or draw an idea on the white board.
  • Chat: Not a featured speaker but still want to get your ideas heard? Do this with the multi-user Instant Messaging feature.
  • The Hot Seat: Request a spot as an attendee, feature a guest speaker or introduce a new member of the team.
  • Record and Archive: Upon the request of the meeting holder, all the interaction is recorded and archived for sharing with non-attendees.
  • Non Web Users: Allows audio/ video phone, MSN and Skype users to participate in the same conference.

I like the fact that conference sessions can be recorded. This feature is extremely valuable for companies that would like to archive meetings. In fact, company meetings could be recorded and published on YouTube or even posted on a company blog like MojoPages for viral marketing. This is a marketing strategy that is not being utilized enough in the tech market place.

Any site, when rolling out new features, should host and record a conference to explain and inform users of new benefits. This practice will better educate users on how to get the most from a product and improve adoption. In addition, video distribution on massive sites like YouTube could lead to new users.

(Note: please contact us if you would like LaunchTube to record a screencast of your product - shameless plug!)
